Web UI for creating Debian images

Sun May 22, 2016 10:22 pm

Hello!

Let me introduce https://cusdeb.com - a web UI for creating OS images. Just follow these steps to get your own customized Debian:
1. Select Raspberry Pi 2 or Raspberry Pi 3 under 'Target Device' and 'Debian Jessie' under 'Distro'.
Image
2. Add packages from the official Debian repository.
Image
3. Set up root password.
Image
4. Choose language, timezone etc.
Image
5. Download the image and write it to SD card.

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed!

CusDeb alpha version released. It uses jessie/stretch bootstrap script for RPi2/RPi3 (32bit) until we've managed to use Linux 4.4

Any feedback are welcome!

It's armhf. It generates Debian Jessie images for Raspberry Pi 2/3.

It builds under x86-debian, right. Sorry for the confusion.

No way am I going to use OS images created by some random stranger on the internet. No way can I hand over user names and passwords to my operating system installations.

I don't mean to imply there is any shenanigans going on here or that our OP means harm.

But this is nuts.

Thanks for your comment.

Our goal is to develop a tool that can be used for generating OS images for various devices. We suppose our web-based tool is easy to use because it requires only a web-browser, but we realize nobody trust it. So, we start a new project called pieman and it's a bash script: https://github.com/tolstoyevsky/pieman

Except pretty much all Linux OS images (including Raspbian) are created by some random stranger on the internet. Even if it is made by a group of people, they've probably never met in person and barely know each other.

For free, open-source software then it's all about trust and being able to check the credentials so you know the stuff you're downloading is coming from the trusted source.

We replaced https://github.com/drtyhlpr/rpi23-gen-image with https://github.com/tolstoyevsky/pieman on https://cusdeb.com/en/

So, now CusDeb can build Raspbian Stretch, Ubuntu Xenial Xerus and Ubuntu Artful Aardvark(64 bit) images

Return to “Debian”
