Noobs screenshots howto ?

Sun Nov 03, 2013 5:28 pm

Hello
on the blog http://www.framboise314.fr, I offer articles on the Raspberry Pi for French RaspiNautes.
These translations are made for users who cannot read the original documentation in English.
I would like to write an article about Noobs installation with screenshots but I do not see how to take those screenshots.
I took pictures of the screen with a camera but they do not give very good results.
Has someone made real screenshots in Noobs and if so, how ?
Thanks in advance
Friendly regards
François

You can use VNC to take screenshots of the NOOBS interface.

See https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs/issues/116 for details.

Hello
I just try to add vncinstall in recovery.cmdline
When booting, Noobs screen is black with this message in the upper left corner :
ip: SIOCGIFFLAGS error: No such device
Then nothing happens for about 10 seconds and after the time out OpenElec boots as usually
I tried to remove the
quiet
in the recovery.cmdline
but I see nothing about the error
Any idea?
friendly regards
Francois

If I am reading this right, it means that you could run NOOBS headless (and install an OS onto a Pi w/o hooking up k/v/m to the Pi).
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

yes it's what I would like to do : use the Raspberry headless
and make screenshots on my PC in the VNC session...
but how?
I was using the "lite" version of Noobs
I just install the "full" version on a 8Gb SD card
added vncinstall in the recovery.cmdline file
now Noobs displays on the screen and waits that I chose a system to install.
No error writen on the screen during boot
I found my OpenELEC RasPi IP address in the DHCP server
ping RasPi is ok
but when lounch VNC viewer on py PC
with 10.25.100.27:1 (it's openelec [email protected])
and try to connect I see an error window with
connect : Connection refused (10061)
...
going on searching

Why :1?

Try :0

that's the default (port 5900).

Or just leave the :0 off entirely, since it is the default.

I recall there being some one-way write to GPU in an early draft specification which would rule out using the usual linux screenshot mechanism in raspian. I don't know Noobs. Pidora uses part of normal memory for screen X-display so that has a screenshooter application. Guessing that you cannot give permission for VNC during the earliest stage of first boot, your best bet may be to get a smartphone or other external camera to photograph your monitor.

I tried to photograph the screen but it's not very good.
The Noobs Team published some screenshots
that's why I think it should be possible...
