Looking for educational software to install on raspbian

I am sending some raspbian/raspberry pi 3 computers to some poorer communities abroad. I'd like to preload the computers with some cool software for learning. Things like teaching how to type, spelling, learning English, basic coding, science, history etc.

Can anyone direct me to such educational software for me to install on raspbian computers?

This is for kids aged 10-18.

There's a version of Ubuntu called Edubuntu that comes with lots of education packages. You can see a list of what is included here - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Edubuntu/AppGuide

They might not all be included in the Raspbian repositories however, and you'll need to test them all.

https://packages.debian.org/stable/education/
(don't download packages from the website , use APT
or Add/Remove Software directly from the Pi instead).

You might want to look into "Sugar" too , which
was developed for the OLPC project and used to
be available in previous Debian/Raspbian releases.

You might also consider setting up a Pi powered WiFi hotspot with a local copy of Wikipedia and other educational materials. See, for example

Hello,

FYI, I ported OOo4Kids and OOOLight (enlighted OpenOffice.org) to ARM (raspberry pi 3 - should work both on 2 and 3), as .deb archives.

Please contact me in private if you are interested. ( or by mail using contact at educoo dot org )

Hi,
I am not sure if you want to learn C.

Originated as a teaching and learning tool for non-computer science major students, Ch aims to make learning C/C++ as simple and easy as learning Basic. It is used by teachers, students, engineers and scientists around the world to learn math, computing and C/C++.

Ch now supports Raspberry Pi, Pi Zero and Pi Zero W and is free for Raspberry.

you can give it a try here:

Does anything exits like fedora's "dnf groupinstall education" such that I could just install all educational packages? I am aiming for an install for a 3-7 y/o. I could do a package by package install (based on fedora) and see what hits and what misses but that would not be ideal.

Raspbian ships older versions of software just like Debian due to the "freeze" a stable release goes through.
You will not get new versions inside a stable release , even security fixes will be backported.

The only solution is to tediously build from sourcw or switching to distributions
which evaluate this stability/features trade-off differently : Ubuntu , Fedora/Arch , Gentoo (mentioned in ascending order of update frequency / decreasing distance from upstream).

Would this all work flawlessly on Ubuntu mate OS on Pi 3?

I found this helpful. KDE has application packages in multiple areas, Education is one of them. Please see the link below

https://www.kde.org/applications/education/

All the Education packages can be installed in one go with the kdeedu package
