Teaching with the Raspberry Pi in Scotland

Tue Oct 20, 2015 1:03 pm

Is anyone using Raspberry Pis in Scottish schools? In particular, is anything going on in the central belt? Having taught a few sessions in a local school, getting permission to attach the Raspberry Pis to the network is a big headache. Some local use-cases would be very helpful to encourage the council and other teachers.

Thanks and best regards,

Did you get anywhere with this question ? I am trying to get some code clubs set up in local primary schools (Edinburgh). I'm furthest ahead with one where the headmistress is nervous about trusting parents with their laptops. I noticed they have lots of redundant monitors/keyboards and mice so am thinking we could base the club on Raspberry Pi's. I hadn't thought about the problem of connecting them to the network.
I volunteer at a Coder Dojo using only Micro Bits but of course laptops are essential. The school has iPads so may that's an alternative to use with Micro Bits).
