Re: Debian ARM on VirtualBox

Hello

I want to create a virtual machine with the .img file dowloaded from the pi site. I convert the .img file to the VirtualBox hard disc file (.vdi) and the debian doesn't seem to boot.

Any tips on how to fix this ?

I think you may be out of luck.

VirtualBox does not do hardware instruction emulation for ARM, so you can't just move an image over.

I think you need to search these forums for the correct methodology.

That won"t work either - it"s not got any x86 code to run. Search the forum for qemu

Well it works. I downloaded the 180 MB cd iso for i386 and installed it on the VirtualBox

Thats not the same as downloading an RPi image. But if it makes you happy ....

I've had success virtualising the ARM Debian RPi image with QEMU using these instructions

hello, i am reading the instructions, are the instructions to be done inside the virtualbox (debian)? does it mean that you are inside of another virtual machine?

I think can use this processing.

I just want to point out (again) that there's no real reason to go this emulation-within-an-emulation route, because it is easy enough to download and setup QEMU-for-Windows and run it directly under Windows. Look for a thread called (something like) "Emulating the Pi under Windows the easy way". That should get you started.
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

I have tried all possible combinations, but unfortunately it doesn't work.
