[wifi][8188eu] problem with TP-Link TL-WN725N v2.0

Thu Nov 07, 2013 7:21 pm

Hello,

I have problem with TP-Link TL-WN725N v2.0. I can't find any driver that works.

I've tried drivers from raspishop.pl and zhujunsan.net and raspberry-at-home.com and http://blog.pi3g.com.

and instaled it via

Code: Select all

sudo wget http://raspberry-at-home.com/files/8188eu.ko -O /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe 8188eu
and every time I run

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe 8188eu
I get error message:

Code: Select all

ERROR: could not insert '8188eu': Exec format error
My OS is Raspbian Wheezy instaled via NOOBS v3 and updated/upgraded.

Check your version of raspbian using command uname -a. If it is 3.6.11+ look here

If you have updated and uname -a shows 3.10.18+ then you will need to revert to 3.6.11+ by restoring raspbian from NOOBS and then look at the link.

Do not run command rpi-update for the moment as it will update the kernel from 3.6.11+ to 3.10.18+. There is a problem with the driver and Linux 3.10.18+ and it won't compile properly and so can't run with 3.10.18 yet. This is being looked at.

Thanks, I'll check.

So I guess that compiling it by myself like this is also no use when I've already updated to3.10.18+?

Hi guys

I've tried several versions of 8188eu source code including "liwei" and "lwfinger" and they all give errors compiling which stops the driver from being loaded. lwfinger is looking at the problem but I've no idea if that will produce a fix or not yet.

lwfinger is a very heavily modified liwei or similar and apparently works for 3.12.xx. But not much good for those of use using the standard code and updating with rpi-update :(

Just in case anyone's interested you can use rpi-update to revert back to 3.6.11+ from 3.10.18+.

The command

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update 8234d5148aded657760e9ecd622f324d140ae891
will set the code to the final version of 3.6.11+.

This will be version

Code: Select all

Linux raspberrypi 3.6.11+ #557 PREEMPT Wed Oct 2 18:49:09 BST 2013 armv6l GNU/Linux

Any reason this driver isn't built into the raspberry pi already? Like other nano cards, 8188eu is popular among the hobbyists.

No in the raspberry pi kernel. This module exists in ubuntu desktop for example, but not in rasbian.

update: I managed to get this card to work by:

1. Building and installing linux kernel according to http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio ... uilding.md
2. Building and installing drivers from: https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu (git clone --depth 1 and then make install)

Using the following hostapd config, this wifi card works as an AP as well:

Code: Select all

#change wlan0 to your wireless device
interface=wlan0
driver=rtl871xdrv
ssid=MY_SSID
channel=1
hw_mode=g
wme_enabled=1
ieee80211n=1
#ht_capab=[HT40+][SHORT-GI-40][DSSS_CCK-40]
#ht_capab=[HT40+][SHORT-GI-40]
macaddr_acl=0
auth_algs=1
ignore_broadcast_ssid=0
wpa=2
wpa_passphrase=MY_PASSWORD
wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
wpa_pairwise=TKIP
rsn_pairwise=CCMP
