I tried the apk but didn't seem to do much for me. Will keep an eye out for improved instructions/version (not desperate for it yet).

Looking at the Nook, it might also be worth looking at the 4-inch Android tablet that CPC are knocking out for £29.95 + VAT. It has a colour screen and is running Android 4.0 out of the box.

Yeah I saw that one and thought it could be useful (price may have gone up now though). Would make a good alternative to an iPod touch I guess.

In fact would probably make a reasonable Skype phone if you are within wifi range most of the time.

Can the Nook be made to communicate serially over USB? Maybe a bit of an odd question, but I've been looking for a small device that can be easily hacked to use the Linux modules for serial-over-USB to operate with some PIC-based devices I've been building.

EDIT - I've just seen the post about the PL2303 API and that answers my own question!

I'm using PL2303 modules for communications on some of the PIC devices already.

You need to download 'search market', as the official market search, won't work on the nook.

I'm stuck installing the SearchMarket bit :
Go to http://play.google.com
Search for SearchMarket
Click on Install
Open the Send To dropdown. You should see a device called "phone".
I don't see any dropdown - where is it? I can press 'install', but nothing appears to happen?

If I remember rightly, you have to download the store from somewhere else as there is a bug once jail broken that wont let you download with the default store.

You will need to be logged in with the same gmail account. If you have any android devices, you'll end up with a list of devices to send it to (it may come up with this after you press install - I think they have changed it - previously you had a dropdown on the left side).
