GPIO Interface for B+ - 4x opto-isolated input, 8x output

Sat Oct 04, 2014 2:14 pm

I've put together a simple GPIO board for the B+ model that provides four opto-isolated inputs, and 8 TTL outputs (4 used for on-board LEDs). The board is available as a bare PCB now, with a complete kit of components coming very soon.

The schematic is published, and a donation to the Raspberry Pi foundation will be made for each board(/kit) sold.

I put this together to enable the Raspberry Pi to get simple status inputs, which can then be used to generate a notification, record an event, and so on, and output channels can be used to provide feedback where required. I had a Scaletrix lap timing system in the back of my mind, though I've not gotten that far yet!

Any feedback would be very welcome.

I've updated this board, keeping the 4-opto inputs but now with an 8-channel Darlington array for outputs and a 1-wire bus connection eg for temperature sensor.

More info on my site. Available fully assembled and as a bare PCB.
