Edgeport USB to Serial Converter

Sun Aug 18, 2013 11:16 pm

I have an IO Digi Edgeport/4 USB to serial box that I would like to use with my Pi.

According to some Google Searches, it seems that the edgeport drivers should have been in Kernel 2.7+, but the Debian Devs have removed support from their Kernel. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=548745

Is there any way to add the Edgeport into the current Wheezy? If not on a global scale, is it something I can "roll my own"? I've never built my own Kernel. All I am hoping to do is use the current version of Wheezy, but add support for the Edgeport.

Here is the output from dmesg:

I had the same problem getting my Edgeport USB to serial converter to work on the Raspberry Pi running Raspbian.

The Edgeport worked perfectly fine on my Mint Linux 13 laptop. But it would not work on the RPi.

The important information on the RPi in the error logging are the following lines:
[ 6.569890] Failed to load image "edgeport/down.fw" err -2
[ 6.618238] Failed to load image "edgeport/boot.fw" err -2

The problem is some files are missing in raspbian. Look for /lib/firmware/edgeport/ and you may notice the directory and its contents are just not there.

So to "fix" this problem I simply copied over the files from my laptop to the RPi.

I simply copied over /lib/firmware/edgeport/ from mint 13 to the RPi and checked file permissions then rebooted the RPi.

Now I am no longer getting driver-firmware errors on RPi and getting green flashing light on edgeport indicating drivers are loaded and device is ready for use.

I can control the serial device(s) attached to the Edgeport/2. Life is sweet.

Have you tried this on Raspbian Jessie? I would be very interested in getting a copy of the software you are using on Wheezy. Can you send me a copy or point me to a reference so I can download it?

Thanks in Advance

It worked for my Raspbian installation with the files I found here:
http://panda.moyix.net/~moyix/rpi/rpi_m ... /edgeport/

copy the files to /lib/firmware/edgeport
add execution rights to down3.bin
restart

Thank you guys !
