USB Camera inverted colours

Sun Apr 21, 2013 3:58 pm

Hi,
I have a raspberry pi and was intending to use my existing webcam with it. It was not listed on the Raspberry Pi Verified Peripherals page, but I followed a tutorial online, and found that if I used the Raspberry Pi firmware updater (rpi-update), the camera showed up under /dev/video0

I then installed uvccapture, and used its deafault command uvccapture -m to capture the picture snap.jpg. When viewing the photo, however, all the colours were wrong. The gray areas are the window panes, the green lines are the window frame, the pink is the curtain, and the black is the walls.

I looked at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 3&p=148309, but even with using the script, and trying other applications (such as the webcam viewer in Scratch), the picture always looked the same.

Is this camera incompatible? Or is there a configuration file that I have to tweak to acheive the best results?

I tried uvccapture and got the same problem whereas fswebcam for example does not cause this problem for me.

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Using fswebcam, I get the following image, which is better, but not nearly perfect.
Thanks

Well yes it's too bright for one thing, but I also wouldn't get my hopes up about having a high picture quality from any web cam. The best pictures I can get are made using an oldish digital video camera which allows itsself to be used as a webcam. I think it has better optics or something. On a dull day I think your picture may look better.

Hi again,
Just to see if it makes any difference, I am going to try installing motion onto a fresh install of Raspbian, and see if the image looks any different.
Thanks for your help.

After reinstalling Raspbian, I connected the camera back up, and installed fswebcam. Upon taking a picture, it turned out that now it looks perfect.
Thanks for your help.
