Accelerometers

Hi all,

I've been thinking about hooking up an accelerometer to my Pi, not for anything in particular I just fancy trying it. The only issue is I'm pretty new to the electronics side of things.

I've been trying to find an accelerometer that is definitely compatible with the Pi but googling isn't giving me much luck.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks :)

PS, mods if this is in the wrong section please move it!

This definitely works with a Pi;
http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1268
It is an IMU with an accelerometer, gyro and magnetometer.
I have one working on my Pi.
It uses i2c to communicate.

Search for arduino accelerometer on eBay. Most likely any you find will be compatible with the Pi. If you are not sure post a link to the module(s) you are considering.

Hey thanks for the link.

I'm in the UK though so I guess a uk or even European store would be better.

Thanks Joan will take a look.

If you don't want to wait the 10-15 days for shipping from China try http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/index.php ... elerometer

If you want accurate readings, you will want to get a gyro and an accelerometer.
Accelerometers are noising and are not good for sharp quick movements and gyros drift over time. However, if you combine the readings from both, you will get accurate readings.

BTW: you can see the pololu board mentioned above in the search result.

If I was buying today I'd probably buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140917339132

Couldn't resist. Just bought one. Hope it works!
