I've found the newer devices of those I've made notes about here (http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... pters.html) O.K. - they're all "just a few pounds". However, WiFi dongles can be "power hungry" when trying to connect, requiring upto 500mA briefly, hence you'll need a good quality PSU and, depending on other USB bits & bobs "in use", possibly a powered USB hub. The small bluetooth dongles, like their cousins for other wireless HID devices, are less demanding, but you will have to download additional bluetooth supporting packages (for Raspbian) IIRC they're not part of the "basic image".

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

For what it's worth, I've tried 3 dongles so far, all on Raspbian Wheezy:
  • CPC/Farnell Wi-Pi - Ralink chipset, connected OK, but lots of problems for me: got very hot & caused kernel panic after an hour or two. Maybe I had a bad unit, can't believe they really this flaky.
  • Maplin N150. Ralink again, worked out of the box. Have seen a couple of disconnects, possibly related to power-saving mode - see thread http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 46&t=16257 .
  • TP-Link TL-WN821N: Realtek RTL8192 chip, worked out of the box. Haven't seen any problems with this so far.

I use this one:
ImageUltra-Mini Nano USB 2.0 802.11n 150Mbps Wifi/WLAN Wireless Network Adapter

It works with B/G/N and is capable of receiving HD stream without packet loss.

Realtek RTL8188CUS (same as the edup mentioned): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290826199518

Ralink RT5370: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300573160837

both work out of the box on raspbian (in fact i can swap between the two in my pi without reconfiguring anything!) for under a fiver.

that said, both seem to cause a small hum when used with usb/analogue audio out (not hdmi) but i'm starting to wonder if that's my hub or psu (the hum goes away if you unplug the wifi....)

for more have a look at: http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeriphera ... i_Adapters

This WiFi b/g/n nano adapter works great out of the box with Raspbian.

A Realtek RTL8188EU 802.11 works for me in Raspbian with firmware-realtek which I am selling in ebay india

If asked I can check new adapters and sell them with drivers .. it was a pain to find cheap and reliable working wifi adapters for raspberry pi in india.
