Status leds and remote control

Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:37 pm

Hello,
I looked at this project and now I want to slightly modify it to do something similar. I want to get these things:
  • Power on LED
    Operating system on LED
    RESET button
Infrared receiver (I took it from acer dock)
I've never designed (or drawn schematics) circuits so it might lack extra components (?).Is there something I should change to make it work (haven't built it yet)? Raspberry Pi version B rev 2 512mb.

I am not an electronics expert. Quite the opposite I am just learning. However, I think you should be very careful about this. Do you know exactly how much power that "Infrared receiver" will want to draw when you connect it to the RPi's 5V line? I have heard its possible to destroy your RPi in this way.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I would proceed with caution. Do lots of reading first ... or maybe an expert will respond.

Thanks for reply!

I found datasheet for IR (38kHz version): http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/427/tsop341-219836.pdf. Looks like it needs 3-5mA.
