Add another HAT on top of PoE HAT

Sat Jul 27, 2019 9:49 am

Hello,

I've got a PoE HAT v2.0 and noticed that this HAT does not have any GPIO male pins on its board, just some holes. So I was wondering if it is still possible to add an additional HAT on top of the PoE HAT? If yes how do I do that? Do I need to solider some pins on top?

I would actually like to add the Grove Base HAT (https://www.seeedstudio.com/Grove-Base- ... ry-Pi.html) on top of my PoE HAT.

Regards,
J.

In the Official Blog it lists what Pin Extenders you require:

Thank you for your answer.

Do I need to soldier that 2x20 pin header onto the PoE HAT or does it somehow stay on its own?

Also I don't quite understand what is the 4-way risers for and if I really also need that?

You put the extenders on the pins, then push the HAT over them so the 2x40 pins stick out through the HAT. The 2x2 Pins don't need to stick out, but need to connect to the HAT.

You need the 4 way (2x2) riser because the HAT will be sitting slightly higher than normal and wouldn't be able to connect to the 4 pins that supply it with power otherwise.

Thank you for your answer rpdom, I just realised now that the male pins can go through the PoE HAT in order to reach the next HAT. I guess this means I need th 11mm long 2x20 pin female GPIO header as the 3mm looks too short to reach the next HAT?

Yes. Long 2x20 passthrough header so they extend up through the PoE HAT and a regular length pin 2x2 socket. You'll also need 15mm spacers as the included 9mm ones are too short. See http://www.makerspace-uk.co.uk/raspberry-pi-poe-hat/

Thank you for confirming and for the tip regarding the longer spacers required...
