Pi Zero Enc28j60 Network Adapter Module

Tue Apr 09, 2019 4:41 pm

I was searching for ENC28J60 network adapter, I bought a ENC28J60 network adapter made for Arduino, it didn't work, so I bought a new one specific for Zero (but correctly working also on Pi 2B).
Ok, this board is more expensive than Arduino one (I paid about 18 euro on Amazon), but I haven't wasted time to check for correct cable connections to try to understand why it doesn't work even if connections are ok...

I had just to add "dtoverlay=enc28j60" on /boot/config.txt and at next boot new ethernet port already available.

The only one think I don't like it's at every boot it takes different MAC address, so my router is giving it every time a different IP....
I know there is a way to fix MAC address in some configuration file.

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=209309#p1452371 is what I use to get fixed MAC addresses on my ENC860s

I was able to use exactly those cheap Arduino modules with Pi Zero three years ago, see the instruction links:

I already follower those instructions, that's why, due not working, I moved to another board.

Without creating new discussions: I would like to make ENC28J60 HAT where I can power off module when I don't use it.

I can't find discussion again, to do this I must:
- unload kernel module

Code: Select all

rmmod enc28j60
- power off enc28j60 (I don't remember if on Raspberry input terminals I need to put pull-up or pull-down resistors, or leave it in hi-Z)
- power on enc28j60
- restart module

Code: Select all

sudo insmod enc28j60
Am I missing something?

Return to “HATs and other add-ons”
