Does TV HAT support BBC Red Button using MHEG-5? BBC Red Button is a Ceefax replacement.

The TV hat works one layer down from MHEG-5. It's up to the video decode and presentation to parse overlays/subtitles/network information. There's no reason why it shouldn't work - it's all the same datastream.

I'm not sure there is a Linux MHEG5 open source implementation. I've not seen Red Button Digital Text support on a Linux DVB open source platform, only Windows. (Windows Media Centre supported it, and there is a DVB Viewer Windows plug-in. The latter also supports the newer HbbTV stuff too)

(MHEG5 is only really used in the UK, Ireland, NZ and South Africa? Not sure about Aus. Not in use on Continental Europe - where HbbTV is in use after MHP failed to take off)

What do you need it for? Text or for the other channels?
For me, other than a nice to have as other channels use it to set timers /reminder when adverts are on iirc, which in Kodi/LibreElec may be useful if setup as a PVR.
But most just create a front end for either a Broadband streaming channel (on FreeView and possibly FreeSat, QVC for example does this) or for another channel (radio, BBC red button)
so you'll find the channels in your guide list. You'll not get the bits of text though.

I could use it to read news when I have no Internet. It could also be used in crisis situations.

I live in Scania and can only see Swedish and Danish terrestrial TV from here and there is probably no channels with MHEG-5 here, but I might visit a place where they have channels with MHEG. Now I can see Teletext/Text-TV/Videotext using TV µHAT and VLC since the local TV companies (SVT, DR, TV4) still support this over DVB-T.
