Can I run a Raspberry-Pi 3 B+ with 5" LCD touchscreen on Rechargeable batteries?

Mon Sep 17, 2018 10:06 am

I'm trying to find out if I can run Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with a 5" LCD touchscreen on Rechargeable batteries to make it portable. I don't want to rush anything because I certainly don't want to fry my Pi, but I would like to know if this is possible (and maybe a few pointers on how to get started) All feedback is greatly appreciated!

Yes but as there are more types and sizes of "rechargeable batteries" commonly available than you have fingers and toes that "yes" may not be much use to you.

Also note that there is currently no cell chemistry which can provide a battery giving 5 volts for a significant portion of its discharge cycle. You need to think about a dc-dc converter between the battery and the RPi.

The easiest solution is an adequately high capacity USB power bank.

Very few powerbanks actually deliver the rated current at a stable 5 volts.
Rather than the "easy way", I'd call that the "plug 'n pray way"
Stop plugging your fan directly into the GPIO 5v

I only have a Pi ZeroW and 2.2" display in my mobile box, but with 3S lipo and LM2596 step-down converter you will surely be able to have a mobile 3B+ with display:
