Speaker Problem

I am currently working on a project with speech synthesis. The synthesis works well, but every time it starts or stops there is a horrible bang on the speaker/headphones. I am using espeak, so I thought it might be something to do with that accessing the hardware rather than the default software, but I don't know. Any ideas?

The on-board sound has a habit of "popping" when the audio starts and stops unfortunately there's no current fix for this.
The only alternative is to use a USB audio dongle (search for CM108 audio via eBay) and set that as your output device.

Thanks for the reply. That's a bit annoying, i'm surprised I haven't heard anybody else complaining about it. Does anyone know what the problem is? I can see two solutions, some sort of hardware fix, or software that keeps the line open? I don't know whether such software would effect power consumption, but if it just kept the line "open" (it only makes the noise when it starts, it's fine when it's going) I think that might solve the problem.
