Looking for a battery charger that can charge while Pi is in use

Wed Jul 04, 2018 10:29 am

Hello,
I'd like to build a watering system for some plants, but my garden is far remote from my home. So I thought of powering it by solar at day and battery at night.
I'm just clueless about the right charger module that can power the Pi by while charging the battery.
I thought of utilizing the TP4056 charger module but there's no information on whether its OUT+ port provides a voltage of 5v rather than the battery's voltage and if the source's power is used while charging.

Any idea?
thanks

TP4056 can be used while charging, but includes no boost module. You'll get ~4.2v @ 1A
Have you considered the MP2636?
While not perfect, I have had reasonable success with this module.

It does cost roughly 10x as much as a TP4056 though.

I'm using a few of the Adafruit PowerBoost 1000c's https://www.adafruit.com/product/2465 Up to 1A out and it can charge the battery while powering the Pi. It looks like the MP2636 will give you double that though https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/mp26 ... er-module Up to 2A out. I want one of those but haven't bought one yet. On my wish list.
