Help finding controller board for odd TFT digitizer?

Mon Apr 17, 2017 3:10 pm

Hi there!

Not totally sure if this is the right place to post this, so please let me know if I should move this to another topic.

I have had a Sony Dash HID-C10 since around 2010, and Sony just announced they were going to shut down the servers. My model was acting up anyway, so I decided to take it apart and see if I could put a Raspberry Pi inside—there seems to be plenty of room.

I opened it up, and the screen is the familiar Innolux AT070TN92.

It is attached to some strange digitizer, but it has the standard 50(?) wire touchscreen out.

Great—I grabbed a driver board, plugged it in, and it worked!

I was feeling pretty good, but I wanted to use the original digitizer as well. From what I can tell, this second ribbon contains the digitizer pins. It is the same number of pins as the TFT cable, but doesn't respond when plugged in to the controller board.

The only information printed on the digitizer is right under the cable, and the cable itself doesn't reveal much:

Seems like it is manufactured by Atmel, but I can't find any information on it. The entirety of the text is SEIC01-C0.02R 10D09A ELK ©ATMEL71921-A7. A google search for Atmel 71921 returns pretty much nothing.

Has anyone encountered this panel before? Any advice as to how to get this digitizer working with a Raspberry Pi?

Thanks!

You will need a touchcontroller in order to use the PCAP. Due to the fact that you don't know the touch tail pinout I guess you will not be able to get it working.
Forget about the touch though

I'm not sure if this is the right information for your digitizer, but this is what I was able to find as far as the company and touch screens they supply:

http://www.dawar.com/Files/Admin/PCAP/P ... -Guide.pdf

It has information on how to activate a touch screen using Linux. I'd be very interested to know how your project comes along as I've just received the OTA update for my Dash and want to keep using it after July, maybe increase what it can do like adding Alexa since (I believe) the Dash has an unused microphone and Amazon release the source code for Alexa to be used on the Pi.

It actually looks like folks at Chumby have found a way to get the dash over to their servers... Maybe we will be able to keep them alive after all.

Did you ever get the touchscreen working?

I'd rather add a RPi behind the Dash than go Chumby if you did.

I just started taking a look at installing a Raspberry Pi into a Sony Dash HID-C10, as well. Seems like it might be a fun project where I could learn a lot of new & interesting skills, and end up with a small, touch screen Raspberry Pi appliance that I could use to run a variety of useful applications.

Did anyone solve the TFT digitizer controller board problem? (The info from http://www.dawar.com/Files/Admin/PCAP/P ... -Guide.pdf looks promising, but I don't know enough yet to proceed with any confidence.) The digitizer pinout info is available in the DIY community, if that would help.

Sorry! It was a copy/paste from Da_Stache's posting above and it didn't capture the full URL.

Should be http://www.dawar.com/Files/Admin/PCAP/P ... -Guide.pdf

Touch Screen Controllers like these might have some applicability here:

7" Industrial Touch Screen With USB Interface For Innolux AT070TN92, AT070TN93, AT070TN94 (ProCap Touch Screen!)
http://www.touchpanelscreen.com/quality ... -at070tn94

7" inch USB Capacitive Touch Panel Screen Controller for Rasperry PI
https://www.buydisplay.com/default/7-in ... asperry-pi

I can't help but think there must be a USB Capacitive Touch Screen Controller out there that will control the 7" 800x480 Innolux AT070TN92 ELK Capacitive Touch Module that is in the Sony Dash HID-C10 and is compatible with the Raspberry Pi.
