I recently came across the Gert VGA 666 – Hardware VGA for Raspberry Pi from
https://www.pi-supply.com/product/gert- ... pberry-pi/. I was curious if anyone had used this add-on before, and what your thoughts are on it. I'm curious as to if this add-on is worth the $8.08 USD they're charging for it, or if I'm better off not messing with this add-on at all.

It should work fine, however it uses up basically all of the GPIO's

I don't see the GPIOs being taken up as an issue. I'm not currently using them as it is, so there is no loss for me when it comes to that. My main concern is quality and performance. Will the video output render well? Will there be any lag between what I do in terms of commands and what is rendered on the screen? I suppose I could order the product, run a few tests to see how well it does, and then write up a review so people like myself can have these questions answered.
You, my friend, have just inspired me to do that. Thank you.

Video rendering is done in hardware, the same way HDMI is done, so does not use CPU power at all.
So no, no lag will show, above what the software does to render the screen.

My daughter has one permanently connected in her room for scratch and minecraft Pi, its not a bad quality picture at all.
I connected it to an A+ for
this picture but its on a Pi2 now. (not an image of the rendered screen, just of my assembled VGA board)
