How to attach a TFT car backup monitor to the pi?

I have seen a lot of people do this in videos (like the gameboy zero, pi mini computers, and others) but I can't find any that are a good walkthrough for beginners. I bought this backup screen from amazon:

I'm hoping to attach it to a pi to use as a screen for gaming. When I open it up the board looks like this:

You need to connect it to the A/V-connector of your Pi (FBAS video). Be sure to configure the Pi to the right video mode (PAL or NTSC; refer to https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... fig-txt.md for info)

I'm a beginner to this kind of stuff as well. I've been viewing videos that tell me to remove a chip on the circuit board (I have a similar screen as the original poster by the way) that forces 12v to 5v. I've plugged it in to a portable phone charger along with my PI:

When I hook everything up the screen flickers white repeatedly and nothing distinguishable shows up. Could you tell me if I'm doing anything wrong and help me fix it, or show me the chip I need to remove?

I would suggest to not attempt to modify the screen and instead use a battery pack with dual output 12V & 5V. Something like this:
