FM transmitter dongle adding driver to Rasbian??

Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:33 am

I have an FM transmitter audio dongle apparently there is Linux support for this device however I haven't got a clue how to compile and get this installed on Raspian.
I downloaded 3 files from the following page: http://git.linuxtv.org/media_tree.git/c ... bae960ee45 but "make" doesn't work.

Does anyone know where I proceed from here??

That Makefile is a stub and not enough to build the driver - you need to find instructions explaining how to build it.

I've got it working unfortunately the audio is all wrong it plays way too fast I suspect it's rendering 44100Hz at 48000Hz without and re-sampling which is kind of stupid.

Is there another way to play audio without ALSA or has a suggestion to fix this??

qmmp logs:
HttpStreamReader: ready
QmmpAudioEngine: selected decoder: mad
HttpStreamReader: ICY metadata: StreamTitle='LiquidStar feat Tiff Lacey - Footprints (Andre Pascal Remix)';StreamUrl='';
DecoderMAD: Total time: 0
OutputALSA: The rate 44100 Hz is not supported by your hardware.
==> Using 48000 Hz instead.
OutputALSA: can pause: 0
Output: [alsa] 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16le
ReplayGain: disabled
StateHandler: Current state: Playing; previous state: Buffering

Never mind I fixed it there was an option in qmmp to switch from ALSA to "sysdefault:CARD=Audio" which I assume is alternative audio driver.
Now I have a 5 quid FM transmitter streaming music from 76MHz to 112.50MHz (code patched for extended frequencies) :roll:

If anyone was wondering the transmitter is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-Wirel ... 0954840477 the Keene FM transmitter sold on Amazon for 3 times the price is actually the same dongle lol.
As for write ups there isn't much to say really I found a precompiled ARM binary which runs on the PI I extended the frequency range so it could tune just outside the regular FM band.
My iRiver MP3 player with Japanese firmware can tune FM all the way down to 76MHz and this is important because most digital radios are limited to UK 87.5MHz or US 88.1MHz and thus prevents eavesdropping. :)
