Ready-made relays?

Mon Dec 28, 2015 10:56 am

I was wondering if there is a ready-made relay or similar for that allows the GPIOs of a rPi to act as the on/off switch for example for any off-the-shelf 12 V LED with no soldering required? The application is DC-to-DC only in case that matters.

Try googling 'Seeed Raspberry Pi Relay board' or 'Piface Relay Plus'

Note the 1st uses i2c, the 2nd SPI NOT GPIO.

or you could try some of the other relay boards you find, eg sainsmart, but some get them to work OK others appear to have issues. Some people have built interfaces to them, I modified mine, but that isn't ready built.

Thanks Gordon! The PiFace looks like exactly what I need. :)

Hi

A recently got something called a FLAT Pi from Willow Components which is very easy to use. I see they also have a compatible Relay board. Might be worth a look.

You don't say how many relays you need, but here's a two relay unit:

I'm using sainsmart 4 and 8 channel relay modules. They include optoisolation and can be connected to the Pi via ribbon cable or individual wires.

We offer a HAT sized dual relay board that plugs directly into the 40 way GPIO connector and each relay has on board selection for the GPIO line. The relays are single pole changeover and are rated at 10A. Although the contacts are specified at 250VAC, we only rate the board for 30V AC or DC operation. This is mainly a safety issue. In addition, there are two bi-directional opto-isolated inputs that are useful for monitoring remote events.
