I'm trying to compile this module on my own. After few failed attempts now I am able to compile the module but I'm getting:

Which is not surprising because I see vermagic mismatch:

The same source compiles cleanly and loads without any problems on x86_64 (Ubuntu 14.04, kernel 3.13.0-77-generic).

@MrEngman. So, with your help my wifi 8192eu-4.1.13-826 worked perfectly. Stupidly i did an upgrade and now I'm stuck with 4.1.17+ build 838. Not working anymore. Tried to install with a changed install.sh. No. Patched the driver as I found 4.1.13 somewhere. No. So can you please compile a new version ? Or supply the source with the compile instructions ?

I'm in the same boat as Casey, however I'm kernel 4.1.18-v7+ #845. As with Casey, either the compiled driver or instructions on how to compile my own (even better) would be greatly appreciated!

I've managed to update the 8192eu drivers I compile so they are now available for 4.1.17(-v7)+ and 4.1.18(-v7)+.

Using my standard naming format you can download and install using

wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80256631/8192eu-kernel-build.tar.gz
tar xzf 8192eu-kernel-build.tar.gz
./install.sh

replacing kernel and build with the values from the command uname -a.

As an example for a Pi 2 B using raspbian 4.1.18-v7+ #845 use commands

tar xzf 8192eu-4.1.18-v7-845.tar.gz

For posterity, my pi zero is showing the following as a result of "uname -a"

Linux XXHOSTNAMEXX 4.1.18+ #845 Thu Feb 18 19:37:13 GMT 2016 armv6l GNU/Linux

The "githash" from /boot/.firmware_revision is:

68febe187617906637e0ac71b0c8b8f581f10078

I believe (although I am no expert) that this would allow someone, in conjunction with the rpi-update tool to downgrade / upgrade to this *EXACT* kernel that is compatible with your driver.

I dont know is this changed for the pi2b, but ive previously had a headache trying to find the githash to downgrade, hopefully this may help someone if you were unable to compile a driver due to being abroad /away etc...

I claim credit for nothing, merely postng a has that may help somone next week or the week after

Presumably you are using a 8192eu wifi module so you can find how to determine the driver to download looking here viewtopic.php?p=910778#p910778.

Check uname -a and use the kernel and build number you find to make the correct filename to download and install.

You need to create a link to your linux source directory like

sudo ln -s /home/pi/src/linux /lib/modules/4.1.13+/build

You will need to change /home/pi/src/linux to point to the directory where your linux source is.

If you are using raspbian OS you can download and install the driver I compile using the following viewtopic.php?p=910778#p910778 setting the filename to download using info from command uname -a to set the kernel version and build number in the file to download.

Sound like the sort of problem you could get with power supply issues. What type of Pi are you using? Do you see the red PWR led flashing at all?

Could possibly be a bad connection in your USB socket. May be changing the USB connector you are using could help.

/lib/modules/4.1.19v7-aufs/build is a symlink to the linux source you need to compile you driver with. You can create it using command

i was kind of hoping for less of a canned response..

I've been searching for over 4 hours to try to resolve this, and everything i've seen doesn't bode well.. This is the one forum thread i've found where someone has managed to build the drivers, but again, no real explination on how. Everywhere else seems to be that very response you gave, but no real explination on where to get the source, how much space i'll need etc. the other common response is to link to forum threads that seem to go no where..

It's like a viscous circle trying to figure out a few things..
1) What sources do i need
2) What is the easiest method to get them
3) How much storage space will i need
4) After seeing this issue has been around for years for this particular wifi module, why hasn't it been addressed at the OS level?

i get that this is a minimalistic OS, but the fact that this module has been plaguing users for years, one would think, by now, someone in the development team would have addressed it.. be it optional kernel downloads, or something a little less clunky than a git repo.

Sorry for venting, but i just seem to be going in ever frustrating circles here.. spinning my gears, going nowhere fast.

Turns out the issue i was having was due to bootberry's weird custom kernel...

used DD to write the raspbian image to USB drive
then reformatted TF-Card and copied boot partition from usb to tf card, and edited comandline.txt and edited the root= section to point to sda2.. booted everything up just fine, once that was done, my new uname -a response is:

Once i had the different kernel, applying the installer.sh went off without a hitch, and wifi is now working like a dream.

Thanks so much for building these installers.. But it would be really helpful to everyone if you could create a tutorial on how exactly to go about doing this for ourselves.
