Is it just the name bootcode.bin in that docs page that is wrong, and needs to be changed for the Pi4? Or are there other issues?
Actually, have done some updates on this area.

Im getting a similar issue using the PoE hat on RPi 3B+

Using Node-RED to run the command 'sudo reboot' but it locks up without restarting.

Doesn't happen every time it seems.

The updated eeprom provided as a fix is only for the RPi4 however - so how to fix on the 3B+.

This is terribly annoying. Trying to deploy some 50 off Pis using PoE. First the issue with the hat (v1) not working with USBs connected, now this.

Why do you think the reboot problem is caused by the PoE HAT?

Because we have hundreds in the field and no problems on any.
Only the ones with latest PoE hats are having this issue.
History is we got 50 of the version 1 hats - they had a design flay regarding USB which meant we had to source PoE injectors.
These then turned out to be rubbish, but just in time the v2 PoE hat came out.
So now have some 50 odd of these been installed this week, but when commissioning first ones this new flaw has appeared.
Did a google search - found this thread - describes the problem exactly - but solution is only for Pi4 nor 3B which we are using.

To be sure sure Ive just removed PoE hat and powered over USB. It reboots perfectly.

OK, can you email info@raspberrypi.org, FAO James Hughes and I can get a HW guy to have a chat with you about this.

Any updates? I have my second RPI 4 with POE HAT and it too will not shutdown via sudo shutdown now as after a few seconds it reboots. I tried downloading the bootloader and running it as described above without success. I bought my POE from the Cambridge Store a few weeks ago. I am using Buster lite.

Same happens to me: 3 x Pi 4 with HAT, latest bootloader, variable set, poweroff ends up in a reboot.

pi@node1:~ $ sudo rpi-eeprom-update
Bootloader EEPROM is up to date
CURRENT: Mon Jul 15 12:59:55 UTC 2019 (1563195595)
LATEST: Mon Jul 15 12:59:55 UTC 2019 (1563195595)

pi@node1:~ $ vcgencmd bootloader_config
BOOT_UART=0
WAKE_ON_GPIO=0
POWER_OFF_ON_HALT=1

At poweroff I see red led turning off but after less than a second it turns on and boot starts.
Any suggestion?

For me the main issue was that I didn't know I have to write the bootloader into the onboard flash. The bootloader from the SD-card is now used anymore since Pi4 so patching it does not change anything.

Flash forward about 6 months since this issue was reported and there's still no solution. Do you guys need any thing from us to help debug this issue?

I'm using the latest RPi kernel and updates on a 4GB, official poe hat (I've tried other manufacturer hats too and no luck) and my switch is a unifi 8 port 60w.

Currently there is so safe way to shut off the RPi when using POE.

I've flagged this up to a HW guy who deals with this. I was under the impression that the firmware/config change described in this thread had fixed the problem, but seems to not be the case.

We should probably add an issue to the official tracker - forum stuff like this gets lost. But I am not sure which one to use for possible HW issues. Maybe firmware. Will ask around.

Thanks for the info onedr0p

We have ordered in the make of PoE switch you are using to investigate your problem here in Cambridge. We will reply with findings once we receive it and have run some investigations.

We have received the Unifi PoE switch and checked it with Pi 3+ and Pi 4 4GB. Up to date Buster. I've not been able to reproduce your reboot issue so far. No reboot after shutdown via desktop or terminal command. Tried with current version PoE Hat and earlier version.

Can you confirm the PoE switch model number you are using? The one we bought has the following model info on the base..

UBIQUITI UniFi Switch 8 60W
M/N US-8-60W

That is the network switch I am using, but it also happens on Unifi 24-port POE switch as well.

Code: Select all

uname -a
Linux pidefense 4.19.75-v7l+ #1270 SMP Tue Sep 24 18:51:41 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux
That is the latest kernel right?

Are there any logs I can send? or anything that could help?

OK, thanks to a returned PoE HAT we think we know what this is.

Can those people who are seeing the problem please try this new bootloader and see if it fixes the problem for them? It certainly fixed the issue with the returned device.

Thanks to Steven Boelens for the returned devices.

Look at he date on the post - July 2019, so it's obsolete.
The bootloader has been released and is available through the normal rpi-eeprom update package. No need to download anything special.

Sorry to necro an older thread, could you check if there is a regression issue with this?

I am having some odd issues when I reboot or shutdown the Pi4 2Gb with the official PoE hat. For example I have two 2Gb Pi 4, that never successfully reboot or shutdown. With a reboot they have to be unplugged from the switch and re-plugged in, ironically with a shutdown they reboot, as described earlier in the thread. I am running the 2021-03-18 Bootloader.

Thanks!
