RasPi4 - active cooling

Fri Jul 12, 2019 9:23 am

Has it ever been considered to produce an official case with a build in fan?

Pi4 is out and every review i've read so far talks about the increased heat and thermal throttling. So depending on what you plan to do with your Pi you will have to consider adding at least a heat sink to it.

Currently i use a Pi3B that is sharing a tight WD-Labs case with a 2tb USB hdd. Only thanks to a massive home-made passive heatsink i managed to prevent non-stop overheating warnings.

I really like the official gear but i'd hate getting constant warnings. And i doubt a small heatsink inside a closed shell will do the trick. So I'll either have to buy a non-official case with a build in fan or try and use my sub-par dremel skills on an official case and glue in a fan...

Pimoroni offers a Fan SHIM but due to the new design of the Pi4 case i'd have to leave it open if i want to use that.

So again: Are there any plans to provide a kind of pro-version of the official case with a build in fan?

Not that I am aware of. We are looking in the case overheating problem.
