Any resolution with USB 3.0 Hubs

I haven't been able to determine if any of the firmware updates (rip-update) resolve issues with some of the nicer hubs out there.

I would like to connect something like one of the Anker 7 or 9 port hubs, but my pi isn't happy with those. Also the 12V input of the Anker works well with the system I have.

I run off an external hard drive with a minimal VFAT SD card and need it to be reliable. Many of the cheaper hubs tend to reboot the pi when I plug in things.

If any body has better ideas for better hubs or how to get some of these to work, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mark

The latest firmware has many USB fixes, so worth trying.

Although we don't support USB 3.0.....

USB2.0 devices plugged into a USB3.0 hub plugged into a Pi generally work.

USB1.1 (full- or low-speed) devices plugged into a USB3.0 hub plugged into a Pi don't work.

I did a bit of testing with an Anker 7 port 3.0 hub and various other hubs and stuff.

It seems to work as you suggested, but if I plug a cheap 2.0 unpowered hub into the Anker hub, I can then plug in keyboards and FT232 based things into that without issues. You do need to watch the depth of hubs though, ports 1-3 on the Anker are at one level, and ports 4-7 are actually another hub off of what would have been port 4.

I was just attempting to get a hub with a robust enough power supply to run everything.

Thanks,

Mark
