Where to get mission control style buttons?

Mon Mar 03, 2014 1:53 pm

I'm sure many have seen this, but if you haven't check out this fantastic mission control setup: http://makezine.com/video/making-fun-mi ... trol-desk/.

Does anyone know where one can get similar buttons at cheap prices?
It's maybe possible to find the covered toggle-switches in thrown away transformers, but I'm interested in the LED-backlit buttons which I've never seen anywhere.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

have a look on ebay. things like that come a lot cheaper if you buy in larger amounts. Illuminted switches are never /cheap/, though - so for a nice retro indicator panel look on a budget, I'd recommend seperate switches and leds, mounted with some chrome/metal led bezels...
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

Fairly standard range of industrial grade switches look at most distributors or manufacturers like Omron, ITT, ITW and their websites then find who distributes them.
Just another techie on the net - For GPIO boards see http:///www.facebook.com/pcservicesreading

Sorry to answer my own question but you can find the light-up buttons on Digi-key to by filtering "illuminating buttons" with nominal operating voltages of 1-6V. Here it is, sorted by price:

Also the toggle switch + cover seem to be more popular and are found at places like SparkFun:

Please let me know if you find other cool buttons (or cheap places to get them)!

I've found some nice illuminated buttons at ModMyPi.
