Connecting to DS2482 in Python via smbus

Thu Feb 13, 2014 1:47 pm

Hi all

I have connected up a MCP23017 port expander on the i2c bus and written a simple python class to control it using the smbus module. I want to do a similar thing with the DS2482 (i2c to 1wire master) but don't seem to be to communicate with it using smbus.
I know the device is working because I can access sensors on the 1-wire bus using owfs.
From what I have read about other devices their may a problem with smbus not being able to issue an i2c repeat-start command.
So does anyone know if it is possible to connect via smbus, or a similar lower level i2c module I can use in python, and if so do they have links to an example/docs?

I am also looking for some code, to access the DS2482-800 (i2c to 1wire master) via Python.
My main target is, to read the temperature of eight DS18B20,
One at each port of the DS2482-800, so I can replace any defect DS18B20 without reprograming the ID-code of the new DS18B20 sensors.

Did anybody do something similar?
