LTC2442 24 bit ADC via spi

Mon Dec 09, 2013 4:00 pm

Hello,

I've been reading the forum for a little while and searching the internet and have just got myself confused.

I am working on a personnal project to interface various sensors to the PI and need a very high resolution, hence the 24 bit ADC.

I have the LTC 2442 connected to the PI via the SPI interface and now want to get meaning full data from it.

Datasheet below.
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1730553.pdf

So as a test I installed the py-spidev and read some data back following instructions in the project below. knowing it would be rubbish data I just wanted to see something coming back via the spi interface.

So I want to take the value from the ADC and then store it in either a text file or a CSV with a time stamp from a RTC. The problem is I'm just confused as how to get meaning full data from this ADC.

How do I get the 24 bits of data back from the ADC via spi and into python so I can log values in a file?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

James

you should contact the manufacturer and ask for drivers for the part. it is likely that there are drivers available that you can use.
for example, http://www.linear.com/product/LTC2442 has some drivers for Arduino

Thanks for the info, I've contacted them and if I can get it working I will supply the details to the group.

Hi James,

I am doing one project in that I need how to send the analog input from sensors to Pi3 . I have been searching for the information how to use 24 bit ADC to the raspberry pi. Can you share your suggestions in this.

Thank you
Sairam
