RFM12 directly to RPi?

Mon Nov 19, 2012 7:51 pm

Hello,

is there a chance to connect a RFM12-Module directly to the RPi? I found this, but i dont want to buy the board, because i have few RFM12 here.

Thanks
Peter

I think you might need to be a bit more specific about what an RFM12 module actually is - some links would help.

• SPI compatible serial control interface
• Clock and reset signals for microcontroller
• 16 bit RX Data FIFO
• Two 8 bit TX data registers

Many thanks for the hint - although I'm not the starter of the thread.

Hi Peter,

If you want to connect using FSK rather than OOK you might want to take a look at the JeeLabs forum at http://jeelabs.net/boards/6/topics/213.

Thanks

Stephen

wrote some stuff in c, setting up a handshaked communication between two rfm12b-modules, controlled by RPi's SPI-Bus, some doxygen documentation included, check it out

Have you seen the board already available at OpenEnergyMonitor?

Here is a small adapter board which is interfacing the RFM12 directly to the raspberry:

I use it to receive wireless temperature- and energysensors.

Has anyone done this yet? I'll be glasd to use the RFM12Pi board (I have one on order), but I'd like to see some references where the Pi is already communicating over RF, including what libs and code were used on the Pi.
I want to experiment with making my own sensor network, but when it comes to RF to the Pi, most sources out there start to get thin and inconclusive.
Have you done it? If so, how did you communicate to the RPi over RF?

Have a look to my Development Thread:
http://www.forum-raspberrypi.de/Thread- ... unk-sensor

I've described the direct connect of RFM12B Module to PI @ "Beitrag#873" and "Beitrag#849"

And the final Collection of the Development:
