8x8 LED Matrix with Max7219

Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:06 pm

Hi,

i got some trouble by using a four 8x8 LED Matrix with Multimax7219-Library.

I have a single 8x8 LED Matrix, what is working with the max7219 Library.
Now i tried to use a combined four 8x8 LED Matrix in a row as a display for showing some text.

But i don´t get it to work. Used Hardware is a Pi B Rev.2.0 and a 4x 8x8 LED Matrix.
The Pi is in a good condition, nothing shows a damage or something like this. Used System is Rasbian-Stretch, up to date.
The SPI-Kernel is already activated and ready for take-off.

Thats all the Matrix done:
(Knight Rider would be proud of the scrolling line)

Thats the Chips are used to work:

I installed two Librarys:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/rm-hull/max7219.git && cd max7219

Code: Select all

sudo python setup.py install
and for the multi-matrix this one:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/tutRPi/multilineMAX7219.git && cd multilineMAX7219
Finally i changed the setup to my used hardware, 4width in 1row.

Cables checked, everything fine.

What´s the Problem? I don´t know anything to fix it...

Richard Hull's max7219 has been redesigned and expanded massively. Using max7219 you will actually acquire luma.led_matrix (just follow the link https://github.com/rm-hull/max7219.git to see for yourself).
What are you trying to achieve with the multimatrix module? Is there something that luma.led_matrix cannot do?
Maybe have a read through the docs at https://luma-led-matrix.readthedocs.io/en/latest/and check out the examples.

BTW; you can install these modules with pip/pip3

@DirkS

Thank you for your Comment. There´s nothing special what i want to do, just shown a scrolling text without any graphics or effects.

I try to read you posting andmaybe everything will be fine...

Then luma.led_matrix should be all you need.

@DirkS:

That´s it!!!

Finally now it works. Thank you very much for your hint!

All i have done was:

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/rm-hull/luma.led_matrix.git && cd luma.led_matrix
sudo python setup.py install
Wish you a happy new Year, thank you very much!!!
