Is WiringPi compatible with RPI3 Model B+?

Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:19 pm

Hello! I have an app developed on RPI 3 Model B which uses WiringPi library and I want to try it on the new RPI 3 Model B+.

However, I saw that it has a slightly differnet SoC (BCM2837B0) than the previous model (BCM2837).

So does anybody know if WiringPi is fully compatible with the latest RPI? Has anybody tried it?

Thank you!

+1, my 'C' "GPIO demo" codes use both wiringPi and pigpio methods and are working fine for me.

Still running Raspbian Jessie on some older Pi's (an A, B1, B2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W) but Stretch on my P3B+, P3B, B+, A+ and a B2. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

That's useful to know. I've ordered a Pi3B+ but don't expect to get it before next week.

The only issue I've had with my code, which was not Pi3B+ specific, but (probably) a known "kernel bug", was with the (SPI) code using 'C' system calls: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=207412 My current "workaround" is to use a wiringPi routine to set the SPI clock speed (and not use the file handle returned). I could use the pigpio eqivalent instead, no doubt, but haven't tried it yet. (I'm guessing, but haven't dug deeper into your or Gordon's source code to check, that it's possible to just set the SPI clock speed "on its own".)
