USB Barcode scanner not working

Fri Dec 01, 2017 6:50 pm

Hi All

I am trying to connect a USB barcode scanner to a PI 3B. It should just connect and emulate a keyboard. Looking at the dmesg log it seems to be picking it up

[ 4551.781170] usb 1-1.5: new full-speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg
[ 4551.913785] usb 1-1.5: New USB device found, idVendor=2dd6, idProduct=0260

I have tried it on a win 8 laptop and it works ok, I am very new to using PI so I guess I am missing something. On the laptop I just scanned a barcode with note pad open and it pops up as if just typing in. On the PI it scans and makes the same beep to say it has read the code but I don't get any data output to office writer.
Anyone got any ideas or is the scanner just not compatible?

What happens if you boot with the scanner plugged in ?

It clearly gets detected as a keyboard (HID-device) but it depends a bit on how X-windows picks up these devices. I have not tested thoroughly if its plug and play or if they need to be present before X-windows starts.
