How do I connect external audio codec to Raspberry Pi 4B?

Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:33 am

First of all, I couldn't find info on the internal audio codec on Raspberry Pi 4B, does it even have one?
Or does it not, so it'd mean it also doesn't have DAC?

Anyway, I have MAX9867 Evkit, however, I don't need the entirety of EVKIT, I only need MAX9867 audio codec itself, and the necessary tracings/pads/connectors.

So my question is, how do I make MAX9867 part of Raspberry Pi 4B? So MAX9867 will be used as default audio device within Raspbian OS? So when I play any sound, it'd be output on MAX9867's headphone outputs?

Like, give me a step by step, I'm newbie, so telling me about adding some stuff to device tree, or configuring via i2c is not helpful.
Give me the specifics. I didn't come here for vague advices.
Like, I guess I'd need to connect MAX9867 to Raspberry via I2C, right?
I'd assume Raspbian already has MAX9867 driver? So, uhm, how would Pi4-B detect that MAX9867 is connected through i2c bus? Do I need to "tell" it somehow? How?

[Moved to Interfacing]

Return to “Interfacing (DSI, CSI, I2C, etc.)”
