Ah okay, that makes more sense.

Hey guys,

I am a software developer (C++, python, go) and know my way around Linux.

I just got my first raspberry pi (B+) and am having a problem with the camera.

I have read all of the comments on the current 4 pages that this forum constitutes and I am not sure if I should create a new forum asking my questions or continue on this one. Please let me know if I should start a new thread. The title of this thread is exactly my problem... I have a B+ Pi and the camera is NOT being detected. However, it does not seem to matter whether I enable I2C in via raspi-config or disable it.

No matter what I do, I see the following:

Code: Select all

pi@rpi13 ~/projects/camera $ vcgencmd get_camera
supported=1 detected=0
When I try the raspistill: (not surprising as the camera is not being detected)

Code: Select all

pi@rpi13 ~/projects/camera $ sudo raspistill -v -o test.jpg
...
mmal: mmal_vc_component_create: failed to create component 'vc.ril.camera' (1:ENOMEM)
mmal: mmal_component_create_core: could not create component 'vc.ril.camera' (1)
mmal: Failed to create camera component
mmal: main: Failed to create camera component
mmal: Camera is not detected. Please check carefully the camera module is installed correctly
Are these supposed to be commented out? Or NOT commented out? Does it matter?

Code: Select all

pi@rpi13 ~/projects/camera $ cat /etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf
# blacklist spi and i2c by default (many users don't need them)
blacklist spi-bcm2708
blacklist i2c-bcm2708
I am happy to provide any details that may help solve my problem.

These might be helpful:

Code: Select all

raspistill Camera App v1.3.8

Code: Select all

pi@rpi13 ~/projects/camera $ uname -a
Linux rpi13 3.12.28+ #710 PREEMPT Wed Sep 10 15:23:42 BST 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux

Code: Select all

pi@rpi13 ~/projects/camera $ vcgencmd version

I have, too, read through all four pages but the workaround does not work for me either.

Ran rpi-update, rebooted, executed camerafix.sh directly after logon

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ vcgencmd get_camera
supported=1 detected=0
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ vcgencmd get_mem arm
arm=384M
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ vcgencmd get_mem gpu
gpu=128M

I must have checked the camera cable connection twenty times by now. Anyone with any ideas?

I think when ever you install pitft display it will install older kernal
if you update it to 3.12.32+#721 both rtc and camera will work together but pitft will not work.
working on to provide better solution.

You need to run with Notro's custom kernel (currently 3.12.25+).

sudo REPO_URI=https://github.com/notro/rpi-firmware rpi-update

So I bought this camera:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 5PC1Y22185

And it all worked fine.

This is the camera that created problems for me:

Is there any update on this issue?

I have a B+ and my camera is not working. It is not a physical default as far as I can tell, because when booting up on a model B (and different SD card) the camera LED turns on, but that software is from a friend's Pi and I cannot test it.

I installed a fresh copy of Raspbian, performed update, upgrade and rpi-update, and the camera still does not work.

The issue described in this thread has been long resolved. If your camera doesn't work, it is NOT because of what's in this thread. Please make a new one with all the relevant details included.
