Fastest boot to camera ?

Thu Jun 26, 2014 10:21 am

What's the fastest anyone has achieved from power off to taking first picture ?

I can only get raspbian down to around 15 seconds.
Android app - Raspi Card Imager - download and image SD cards - No PC required !

Not really important - I just want to reduce the time from switch on to first pic.

Archlinux is a faster boot, so had a go:

enable camera:
http://blog.philippklaus.de/2013/06/usi ... linux-arm/
make my own rc.local service:

/etc/system/system/rc.local.service:

Code: Select all

[[Unit]
Description=autostart rc.local
[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/etc/rc.local

[Intsall]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
usual in /etc/rc.local

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
/opt/vc/bin/raspistill -t 500 -o pic.jpg
systemctl reenable rc.local.service

Result: 7 seconds from rainbow to picture - beats raspbian.

I see picore supports the camera, so I'll look at that next

Code: Select all

tce-load -wi rpi-videocore
Android app - Raspi Card Imager - download and image SD cards - No PC required !

yep, arch is the best linux distribution (imo). No GUI, excellent package manager for linux (pacman). KISS principles. Fast. Beautiful.
