Raspberry Pi Camera as webcam on Windows

Tue Mar 25, 2014 3:47 pm

Hello everyone.

I have been toying with the idea of using my Raspberry Pi camera as a webcam for my PC recently, but I have run into an awful lot of trouble. The way I see this working, would be to stream the camera output from the Raspberry Pi with something like RTMP and then having that go though a DirectShow Source Filter on my Windows machine. The only problem is that I have not been able to find a DirectShow filter than can grab an RTMP source and make it work like a webcam in something like Skype for example. Well, I have found some, but none of them work.

MJPEG DirectShow filters exist, but MJPEG is awfully slow and does not support very high resolutions. I am hoping some of you have an idea as to what could be done. I appreciate any help!

Why aare you using windows? I'm guessing you just want an ordinary HD webcam for it but already have a pi cam...
