EXIF Data - Please include the date/time by default

Thu May 23, 2013 9:33 pm

Thanks to everyone who's made the camera happen - I'm getting great results with it already! :D

Could someone please post a patch (to be merged into raspistill) to include the date/time in the EXIF data by default?

I'd love to see how that's actually done, but am busy this weekend (at a wedding).

BTW, I've not yet even managed to set it using the -x param.
Should I assume that I need to some absurd US date format instead of ISO8601?
By the looks of exif's debug output the key is DateTime.
Double quotes to surround the value?

exif shows

Code: Select all

Date and Time | 1970:01:01 00:00:00

This should actually be working in the current code, but unfortunately for some reason the info is not written to the image file.

This is logged as an issue:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/userland/issues/37
But bear in mind that James who is looking into it is doing so in his spare time.

What's a bit odd is that this used to work when I implemented it - spent some time making sure basic EXIF data was present. And its was definitely in the resulting file, so no idea what has changed in the meantime to stop it. Something in the firmware.

It's a bit weird James because in Win 7 it shows the "date taken" as 1/1/1970 but date modified and date created are correct.

Those second two dates aren't held in the EXIF.
