streaming via ssh -x issue-NOT - fixed cable not seated

Thu May 23, 2013 2:46 pm

Hello,
for those of you who might have read this post.. I found it.. works now. I did not have
the plastic clamp pushed all the way down on the ribbon cable .. amazing that it
would cause this kind of error ... so symptom need hdmi display plugged in ..
check ribbon cable .. even though camera lights up .. still would like to know how
to turn off light..

I got my camera last week and it ran ok... I've been using the streaming option of raspivid with great success .. but today after I put on the latest updates via apt-get upgrade I can only stream IF the pi has an HDMI screen plugged into it...here is where I am software wise ..

Linux raspberrypi 3.6.11+ #456 PREEMPT Mon May 20 17:42:15 BST 2013 armv6l GNU/Linux

here is the command I am using ..
raspivid -b 5000000 -t 999999 --verbose -w 1280 -h 720 -o - | nc 192.168.1.129 5001
on my mac I am using
nc -l 5001 | mplayer -fps 31 -cache 1024 -flip -
this is on a raspberry pi model A
again it still works but only if I have an HDMI display plugged in ..
this is also happening @ #452 of the software .. I used another card .. same thing now..
very strange
here is what my log on the apple looks like when it works..

my config.txt file has these lines in it..
[email protected] /boot $ cat config.txt
start_file=start_x.elf

Any help would be appreciated or if you need more info just let me know
and if anyone knows how to turn off the camera that would be good too because I am running
this on a unibat battery (I chose the model a for low power consumption) and I am sure when
the camera light is on it is drawing power..

I successfully used disable_camera_led=1 in /boot/config.txt
and that may save some power, but am not sure how to turn off the camera when not in use.

thanks.. I'll put that in my config.txt as a comment for now so I don't forget it is there.. I was more concerned that when the led is on that indicates that the entire camera is powered not just the led .
