Raspivid Streaming

Sat May 18, 2013 12:01 pm

If I do the following on the Raspberry Pi:

Code: Select all

raspivid -vf -t 30000 -o - | nc -l 3333
And the following in Terminal on my MacBook:

Code: Select all

nc 192.168.1.116 3333 > test.h264
I get a a file called test.h264 created on the Mac that will play in VLC, although there seems to be no timing information as the play back speed is not consistent, or perhaps that is just my elderly machine.

I am guessing that this is not a proper stream though, as I couldn't get VLC to pick it up live.

Has anyone managed to get a live stream from Raspberry Pi to VLC working yet?

H264 does not have timing information in built -that in any container.

Note the H264 stream is entirely compliant with the standard.

LeoWhite on a different thread says:

I've finally managed to get streaming workign using vlc and rtp. Seems a little more stable than using http (and I never got netcat/mplayer working under Window!

Running raspivid -o - -t 99999 |cvlc -vvv stream:///dev/stdin --sout '#rtp{sdp=rtsp://:8554/}' :demux=h264

Lets me then play the stream using VLC in windows by Network Streaming from rtsp://<IP of RPi>:8554/

This gets me a step closer to getting better streaming from my BigTraks!

I have tried a number of variations of the above but the latency is much greater than hoped for. I am told it is VLC, is there another alternative?

Thank you.

Windows people seem to only care about VLC. I get about 200ms latency with this: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 77#p465477

Could be tuned in various ways still.
