Raspivid FPS

Fri May 17, 2013 9:00 am

I know you know about it but I thought a separate topic would be good....

using
raspivid -hf -fps 1 -t 3600000 -o test.h264

I do get 1fps but the initial frames are black then it scales though the greens for a few frames until it settles down...

will you be able to make the fps go below 1 ?
1/min ? 1/hr
and how will you express this on the command line?

For much lower frame rates like that, it might be better by using raspistill timelapse ? (and higher quality)

e.g. 1 per second for an hour:

Code: Select all

raspistill -t 3600000 -tl 1000 -o image%d.jpg
Of course then you have to encode them into a video.
There's a script here to do that here

but that's not accelerated.
Android app - Raspi Card Imager - download and image SD cards - No PC required !

The mode used for video is defined down to 1fps, but I've never got that working properly - 2fps was the best I could do. I think there may be a technical reason in the encoder (rather than camera) why lower than 1fps isn't possible, but it's on my list of stuff to check.

for 1 fps you need to setup proper keyframes...
