Anyone had any thoughts on a suitable case for the Pi with a camera?

Nice concept, it needs to include a small enclosure for the camera module itself I think.

Good point :-). I've queried this on the comments section on their Kickstarrter project page and got the following response:
"Hi Fergal,

no, but it's a very exciting idea!

maybe in a second phase,

we thought that it could be great also to do an antenna for the wifi with a gooseneck, to multiply those tentacles floating above the sweetbox...

all the best,

Hi all,

I emailed Mark at Pimoroni.com on Tuesday, he's told me that they should have the Pi-Camera Expansion layer ready for the Pibow case next week - Keep a eye on the Pimoroni site.

http://shop.pimoroni.com/collections/cases

Which is great news, so need to buy a whole new case if you already own a Pibow!

Are you kidding :D Looks like AWG12 solid core wire jammed into the RCA slot on one end, and in&around the camera mounting holes on the other. Epic

Here's my cheap and cheerful camera case.
It's a lid off an old iPod Nano box. A hole drilled for the lens to look through. The camera board is held in position with Sugru. And finally I stuck it on an old satnav window sucker which has an adjustable ball joint.

I considered using a 35mm plastic film can, but the hole for the lens would have to be so big because of the curved surface, that there wouldn't be enough protection for the board, so I'm wondering whether to sacrifice one of my old 1930's 6x9 folding cameras, which is big enough to fit the Raspberry, a battery pack and the Raspicam in. Removing/modifying the shutter/lens without damaging the bellows might be the sticking point. It is unlikely that the viewfinder would line up either, but it would look cool if I could manage it.

This is a first idea of enclosure to accommodate the PCB inside.

I keep thinking refined and new options .. ;)

Threw together a DIY camera case using an electronics project enclosure.. Larger remote case... Smaller are available, just not locally.

Cheap and cheerful, but it protects the camera board and gives a larger area to gaffer tape to a support.

Here is my variant of a case for the camera:

Image
Image

Case is this one (german site): http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/5384 ... mm-Schwarz

I added a hole for the lens and another one to insert the cable (which can still be detached/attached). Also in front of the lens there is a thin transparent piece of plastic for protection. In all 4 edges are about 5mm high rubber blocks to which the cam is hot-glued (to have the correct distance to the front of the case)

Realised I could clamp the ribbon cable coming out of the camera board between two bits of Lego, giving a surprisingly solid support. There's nothing poking into the cable, and there's usually a slight gap between the two pieces like that anyway. Next step: adding motors and the Mindstorms whatsit so rioblanco.local can go for a drive...

Not really a case, but an easy test setup if you have a Gorillapod.

With my Gorillapod you can just slide it into the socket that takes the lens plate:

It’s a perfect fit.
