rp high quality camera runs on free software?

Sat May 02, 2020 3:01 pm

free software is software you can use, share, modify and redistribute. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/ra ... ty-camera/

Can the rp high quality camera run on free software? If so, which packages in the repository are
required? Thank you.

Not at the moment. The HQ camera still uses the closed source firmware in the same way as the other models of camera.

And we are perfectly aware of the definition of free software. Source for the demo camera apps is available.

I understand fjr's stance about an open source software stack.
But it's not PI's fault if Broadcom imposed some NDAs on the VideoCore stuff; after all, the price had to be low to fullfill PI Foundation's main goal. I suppose this comes with the NDA restrictions.
They still opened up the pipeline a bit, over the years, dancing on the edge of the NDA if I read it correctly. ;)

Every time we release a new product, the same people ask the same questions hoping for a different answer. I guess it might happen one day.

Is that known as "concern trolling"? It's definitely a form of trolling. Does it stem those crazies who don't like systems with a hardware blob as they're not "open"?

I guess if it were of any concern to us or the majority of users, then yes?
