High Speed Photography with pi camera

I need to capture images in 1/60 th of a second with the pi camera after every one second is this possible?

Yes. Look at raspistill with - ss option and - tl for time-lapse.

Something like

raspistill -t 30000 -tl 1000 -ex off -ss 16666 -o image%04d.jpg

Even after working with Raspberry Pi cameras (v1+v2) for years there are still options that need to be explored in informative doc page.
"--shutter" instead of "-ss" is easier to memorize:

Just in case (much) lower shutter times are needed, I did capture videos with raspivid and "--shutter 20" (yes, 20 microseconds). This works if scene is lighted very bright. The lower the "--shutter" value, the brighter the needed light.

This global (external) shutter double exposure image of 3 airsoft pistol pellets inflight, shot with single shot, was lighted with 9µs duration 5000lm flash (PWM frequency 300Hz):
