Help with multi camera setup . 4 individual Pi0 with pi4 Hub...

Wed Jan 08, 2020 11:10 pm

i'm setting up a rig to monitor an athletic event....ala watch the athlete.

I'm hoping to achieve the following.

4 Pi cameras or other....
720p 60fps-90fps

wired ethernet to a switch that has a Rpi4 as the hub of activity.....controlling some servo motors etc etc.

Closed network where the Pi4 acts as a hub so a tablet can connect and view the video.

i'm not even sure if this is possible.

Can I do 90fps on a Pi0? amongst other question.

With a (current) Raspberry v2 camera, yes (40-90fps for mode 6):

I would have said yes, did connect v2 camera to Pi Zero and tried.
With "-fps 90" there are 10% frameskips, so I would go with 80fps on Pi Zero without frameskips:
https://github.com/Hermann-SW/userland/ ... ptsanalyze
[email protected]:~ $ raspivid -md 6 -w 1280 -h 720 -pts tst.pts -o tst.h264 -awb greyworld -fps 80
Too many macroblocks/s: Increasing H264 Level to 4.2
[email protected]:~ $ ./ptsanalyze tst.pts 0

Interestingly you can do [email protected] without frameskips on Pi Zero as well:
[email protected]:~ $ raspivid -md 7 -w 640 -h 480 -pts tst.pts -o tst.h264 -awb greyworld -fps 150
[email protected]:~ $ ./ptsanalyze tst.pts 0
creating tstamps.csv
750 frames were captured at 150fps

I used a PT servo camera system:

But lately I prefer self-built ("4 drops of superglue") PT stepper camera system
(more fine grain moves, 11.3hsteps/1° instead of 1step/1°):

Thanks so much for the info. Totally what I'm looking for before buying equipment.
Does the ethernet to the hub and then a Pi4 to record the streams and act as the NVR seem reasonable.....WiFi on the Pi4 would aalso act as an entry point for the tablet to view the streams.....
