shutter speed set up in motion (Bird flight)

Sun Jan 05, 2020 2:45 pm

Hello every one !

I'm trying to find out how to set up the shutter speed or any high speed mode for my new ArduCam in motion.
I use a raspberry Pi 4 and a 8Mp ArduCam camera module.

I want my camera to take pictures of birds or other wild animals and I need a high shutter speed for that because they are a bit moving...

Is there a way to do so in motion configuration ?

We can set up the shutter speed in raspistill like that :

Code: Select all

raspistill -ss 800000 -ex sports [...]
and It works fine but I haven't found a thing like that in motion.conf...

if we can't set the shutter speed in motion, I'll probably use a PIR sensor and a Python script. But I 'd like to use motion...

Thanks a lot for you help !

Yes, you need high shutter speed, but that is a low shutter time.
800000 shutter time is 0.8s which is very low shutter speed.

I used shutter times down to single digit microseconds with bright light for capturing 109m/s airgun pellet in flight -- pellet moves 0.109mm/µs, or more than a millimeter in 10µs which does not result in sharp image.

This is frame of video taken with "--shutter 1000" 1ms shutter time out of train driving with "only" 100km/h:

Yes indeed. Thank You !
You just pointed a fact I didn't notice. -ss set the shutter speed, which is quite different with the setting of a dslr where 500 for instance means 1/500° sec...
For guys like me who want to set the shutter speed or other setting of Raspi Camera it is in mmalcam_control_params
So I'm trying a set up like that :

Code: Select all

mmalcam_control_params -ex sports -ev 25 -ss 1000

Return to “Camera board”
