Camera and new Raspi4.

Wed Jun 26, 2019 9:53 am

I am interested in video streaming and simultaneous hard disk recording (better speed, resolution, lag, etc.). The new raspi 4 will be able to do better than the previous versions of raspi?.
Can the amount of RAM for these tasks be of some importance?
Will be better, use wired Gigabit Ethernet than wifi?.
Do you think that raspberry pi org will release new cameras with 4k?
Sorry for so many questions but I have not been able to find documentation about it.

Definitely, even with Pi3B I was able to get 186Mbit/s from a 400Mbit/s line, while Wifi is much slower than that.

I cannot speak for RPF.

I just looked up what 4k resolution is, and it seems to be 4096 x 2160 pixels or 8.8MP.

Arducam offers 13MP/16MP/18MP color rolling shutter MIPI cameras that directly run at Pi CSI-2 port:
https://github.com/ArduCAM/MIPI_Camera/ ... /README.md

I got camera samples from Lee at Arducam for 0.3MP and 1MP monochrome global shutter camera as well as the 13MP camera.
I have not done much with the 13MP camera yet because I am more interested in the global shutter cameras.

You can find the cameras eg. here:

These are some monochrome global shutter videos I did capture:
