can we use ordinary usb camera on raspberry pi zero w?

I was just wondering that can we ORDINARY webcam (usb) with raspberry pi zero w for surveillance . please answer me as as soon as possible.

With a USB adapter , yes.

Than what? The official camera? some arbitrary USB camera? Do you want good low light performance, or higher resolution or something else?
